Forums

With the 2019 Croquet Network States Shield volunteers actively working to hold three Quad Qualifiers over the summer and a "Last Four" Championship in August, a lot of information is shared in our email discussions. I am starting this thread to "leak" information out to all of the players, team directors and supporters of the event much quicker. Much of the information gets saved for more formal press release style announcements, so this little thread will hopefully provide a bit more transparency. With the aggressive expansion plans of the event, there is a lot of fluidity, so info posted here might change.

And this is a forum, so comments, discussion and feedback are welcome in the thread. With that in mind here are a few tidbits to get started ...

SOUTHEAST EXPANSION: It took a little over a year to get settled on the four teams, but the new state team additions are South Carolina, North Carolina, Geogia and Florida. That Quad is set for Tega Cay Croquet Club in South Carolina, June 7-9. Here's a look at the non-binding rosters for the Southeast:

  • North Carolina: Danny Huneycutt, Matthew Essick, Peter Carlin, Jeff Soo (Team Director-non-playing)
  • Florida: David Maloof, Gene Raymond, Jim Teel, Chris Barley (Team Director)
  • Georgia: Jimmy Huff (Team Director), Roy Gee, Kent Lovvorn
  • South Carolina: Simon Jenkins, Damon Bidencope, Robert Hurst

CHAMPIONSHIP LOCATION CHANGE: The original location for the championship round was set for Edina, Minnesota. That venue backed out due to court renovations, but we have officially secured LaFortune Park in Tulsa, Oklahoma for August 16-18. The three winning quad teams and the best performing second place quad teams will advance to that championship round to compete for the 2019 Shield title. The four courts at LaFortune will allow for a separate singles event (US GC Classic) to be threaded through out the team competition.
